Music Mondays: Dancing with Dad - Part 1

Growing up, I was always shy. My dad.... not so much. He is known for his outgoing personality and his dance moves. He can always be found on the dance floor at family functions. He used to always ask me to dance when I was little and I never would. I hated being on the dance floor. So now that our wedding is approaching, I find myself pretty sentimental about the father-daughter dance. I want to give my father the dance I never gave him growing up. So now I need to find the perfect song.
There are so many great song, but I am lyric obsessed. If the lyrics don't make sense or have meaning, I won't use the song. So I am on the hunt for the perfect song with the perfect lyrics. The first song I have found as a contender for the father - daughter dance is Cinderella by Steven Curtis Chapman. I love that it is about treasuring the moment. My dad has had to wait awhile to get a dance out of me and I think we will both be treasuring this dance together.
Cinderella, by Steven Curtis Chapman

She spins and she sways
To whatever song plays
Without a care in the world
And I'm sitting here wearing
The weight of the world on my shoulders

It's been a long day
And there's still work to do
She's pulling at me
Saying "Dad, I need you

There's a ball at the castle
And I've been invited
And I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?"

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone...

She says he's a nice guy and I'd be impressed
She wants to know if I approve of the dress
She says, "Dad, the prom is just one week away
And I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?"

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

She will be gone

Well, she came home today with a ring on her hand
Just glowing and telling us all they had planned
She says, "Dad, the wedding's still six months away
But I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?"

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone
What is the significance behind your father/daughter dance song?

am crying right now. i love the lyrics to the song you hav chosen and i know he will cherish this dance with you.

cherish it with him too.

my dad passed away (and my husband's mother too) before our wedding in 2001. We did away with those dances altogether instead of trying to do it with an uncle, stepmother, etc.

best of luck.
(what a bummer I am!)
enjoy this time!

Aww that is a very sweet song!
I let my Dad pick the song and he chose Rascal Flatts "My Wish"...I think it is perfect
